U7s v Horsforth - 11/10/08
Burley Trojans U-7’s ‘A’ 5 Horsforth Colts 2
Trojans kickstarted their season with a resounding win over Horsforth Colts. The steady improvement shown in recent weeks continued and the home side were full value for their victory, with two-goal Cameron Hawden leading the way. Having seen last week’s fixture fall victim to the weather Trojans made the most of the mild autumnal conditions and signalled their attacking intentions from the outset. Some key positional changes seemed to give Trojans an added dimension with Finlay Tunney revelling in his new midfield role. Early Trojans pressure eventually paid dividends when Hawden was fouled right on the edge of the area and he picked himself up to arrow his free kick into the bottom corner. Alex Bentley added a second soon after when he came up for a corner and sidefooted home through a croded area. Horsforth struggled to make any real impression in attack during the first half as they came up against Bentley and Archie Wilkinson who gave them no time or space. Hawden added a third before the break and then Matthew Revis found the net but the half time whistle had already been blown. Revis didn’t have long to wait to add to his goal tally for the season as he scored midway through the second half when his powerful shot beat the keeper at his near post.Trojans sat back seeming to think the job was done and they were rocked back on their heels by two quickfire Horsforth strikes which gave the visitors a glimmer of hope. Trojans nerves were finally calmed two minutes from time when Revis broke clear on the left and his weighted pass found Callum Worts who took the ball in his stride and drew the keeper before coolly slotting home. Wilkinson, growing in confidence week after week, collected man of the match for another solid performance in defence.
Burley Trojans U7s ‘B’ 1 Horsforth Mustangs 5
In an evenly matched end to end encounter Trojans took the lead midway through the first half Thomas Schofield, when his low shot gave the Mustangs keeper no chance. The improving Alfie White and James Barker contributed well up front but it was Horsforth who took charge scoring twicw on the stroke of half time to take the initiative. Horsforth then took control for long periods in the second half and despite the able Benjamin Kelly trying to move Burley forward gaps appeared at the back. Even the incomparable Ryan Stockley and Ella Shouler-Harris who tackled, marshalled and blocked the Mustang forward line all game long couldn’t keep them at bay. The Mustangs continued to cause problems down the left and they scored at regular intervals to take a 5-1 lead. Once again Trojans keeper, Bradley Hardesty was player of the match, standing tall in the face of constant pressure to prevent an even heavier defeat.
