U7s v Guiseley - 26/10/08

                                                       Guiseley Whites U7s 3 Burley Trojans U7s ‘A’ 6

Trojans overcame the elements and dogged opponents to record back to back wins for the first time. The torrential overnight rain had rendered Queensway almost unplayable and it was credit to both sides that they made light of the conditions to put on an entertaining show for the watching crowd.Matthew Revis, whose exploits have already attracted the attention of Leeds United, fired Trojans into a two goal half time lead with two almost identical strikes showing great strength and skill. The home side battled well but were unable to put the Trojans goal under any real threat and it was Trojans who came closest to extending their lead through Revis and Freddie Smart who was twice foiled by the Guiseley keeper.Revis completed his hat-trick immediately after the restart when his left foot shot beat the keeper at his near post but this was the cue for the home side to raise their game.and they reduced the deficit with a well worked goal. Trojans were wobbling when Guiseley scored again from close range but Callum Worts restored the two goal advantage, beating a defender to net with a crisp finish from the edge of the area. The hosts roared back and set up a tense finale with a goal five minutes from time but once again Trojans responded well, this time Daniel Twigg remaining cool under pressure from the keeper to slot home the fifth. Smart wrapped up the scoring in the last minute when he latched on to a loose ball to finish well from a difficult angle. There were excellent performances all over the pitch, most notably an excellent second half showing from Noah Boardman but Revis deservedly picked up the man of the match award.

Brave Trojans were undone by Guiseley’s strength in depth. The score line didn’t credit Burley’s undying spirit or unbelievably, their defensive effort. Trojans held their own early on with stand-in keeper Ryan Stockley being called upon to make some outstanding stops at one end whilst Thomas Schofield and James Barker had chances for Burley at the other. It was the missed chances and lack of finishing power that was to prove the difference between the sides. By mid-way through the first half Guiseley had eased into a 3 – 0 lead in an error ridden period for the Trojans. Even the impressive Ella Shouler-Harris and Benjamin Kelly couldn’t cover all of the strong running from the Blues forward line. The Trojans gave a first outing to James Scott who proved a handful, contributing well across the park and the improving Jonathon Fisher and Alfie White made themselves known to the Guiseley midfield. However, the Guiseley squad were just too strong for Burley. Fighting the wind on a heavy pitch the Trojan defence fell under near constant pressure in the last quarter. Tired legs left gaps at the back with the final score flattering the otherwise worthy winners.
