About Us
Tournament MarqueeBased in Burley in Wharfedale, Burley Trojans Juniors FC is the football club for boys and girls from Under 6 to Under 17 in Wharfedale.
Burley Trojans Juniors Football Club actively promote youth participation in football. We now have a total of 16 teams (an increase from 13 in 2004) playing in leagues across the Bradford area.
Teams from the newly formed Burley Juniors Football Club (based in Burley In Wharfedale, West Yorkshire) played their first competitive games at the start of the 1985/86 season. The club made an immediate impact on the local football scene by winning both League and Cup competitions.
Down the Line...Increased interest in the club during the late 1980's meant the formation of more teams at different age groups with a number of new people coming forward to help run teams. An executive committee was formed and the club moved forward from strength to strength guided by this enthusiastic body. Initially the club entered teams only in the Craven League and whilst were not particularly successful at that time their attitude was rewarded by winning the League's Sportsmanship Trophy in 1990.
In addition to entering many teams in other events during the season, the Club itself runs an annual 5 aside tournament over a weekend in May which attracts many clubs and hundreds of boys playing. In 2007 we also ran a very successful girls five-a-side tournament during the weekend with over 30 teams registering. This will now become a regular fixture for our five-a-side event.
Rothwell 2004At the end of each season the Club organises a Presentation Evening. Each registered player receives a trophy, and there are special awards in each age group for Sportsman, Player's Player and Player of the year.
There are currently twelve different age groups catered for by the Club, starting at Under 6's up to Under 17's. All teams are managed by volunteers, normally fathers of sons and daughters who are playing. There are approximately 300 boys and girls registered with the Club for this season 2007/08.
Each team trains once per week prior to matches at the weekend. Training is held outside during light evenings, but transfers to local sports halls or floodlit facilities during Winter.
The U7's, U8's, U9's and U10's play in the Keybury Youth League. The games are played across one half of a full pitch, using small goals. Each team consists of seven players with up to 3 substitutes. The rules are fairly relaxed, with no offside and back passes are allowed so the emphasis is more on enjoyment and learning the game. Each game is 40 minutes in duration (20 minutes each way).
Under 11's and above play on a full size pitch with full sized goals and a full 11 aside. Currently, the older age groups play in the Craven, Aire & Wharfe Junior League.
This year is the first season with two Girl's teams (U10 and U12) playing in the West Riding Girls Football League.
We are currently involved in a number of activities moving the club forwards. In 2006 we were very proud to achieve the FA Charter Standard - Development Club Status. Also in 2006 we secured the use of the changing facilities at Scalebor Park and are working towards getting some at Iron Row (see "The project").
In 2007 we set up our first under 6's age group for boys and girls due to demand. We have 30 children registered and they have played a few friendly games so far and have started to learn the game. Due to the success of the under 6's we will make this a regular age group moving forward. The under 6's don't play competitive games, the whole objective is to allow them to get used to the game, find out if they enjoy it and to start to develop their skills ready for under 7's.

My name is Andrew Pietkiewicz and I am Head of PE and Boys' Games at Lady Barn House School in Cheshire. We have an annual football tour to York in September to play three competitive 11-a-side games. Unfortunately, we have been let down by one of the teams we were expecting to play and we are desperate to find an alternative fixture on Sunday 28th September 2008. We would love to play against your team if possible. We are an independant school, where our children are very well behaved and our parents would be extremley supportive of both teams. I hope you may be in a position to help us in some way.
Kind regards
Andrew
